Inkster has 11 precincts at 7 locations, and three locations serve more than one precinct. Do not guess. Enter your name or address at the Michigan Voter Information Center. It shows your precinct, your polling place and your full sample ballot, and it lets you track an absentee ballot. That state tool is the final word; this page is a convenience.

Voting absentee (by mail or drop box)

  • It is too late to trust the mail. Michigan Voting, the nonpartisan coalition, advised mailing ballots back by Oct. 20. Return yours in person now.
  • Drop it off: the ballot drop box at the main entrance of City Hall, 26215 Trowbridge, or the Clerk’s office inside.
  • Deadline: your ballot must reach the Clerk by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3. A postmark does not count.
  • Sign the back of the envelope. An unsigned envelope is not counted, and the signature is checked against the one on file.
  • Need a ballot? Request one online, or go to the Clerk’s office, get the ballot and vote it on the spot. In-person absentee voting ends Monday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m.
  • Track it: the Voter Information Center shows when your ballot was sent and received.

Registering

  • Online and mail registration for this election closed Oct. 19.
  • You can still register in person at the City Clerk’s office, 26215 Trowbridge, any time through 8 p.m. on Election Day, and vote right there.
  • Bring proof of residency showing your name and Inkster address: a Michigan license or ID, a utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check or other government document.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 by Election Day, and have lived in Inkster at least 30 days by Election Day.
  • Clerk’s weekday hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call ahead about extended weekend and Election Day hours: 313-563-9770.

What to bring

  • You will be asked for photo ID: a Michigan driver’s license or state ID, U.S. passport, military ID, student ID, tribal ID or another current government photo ID.
  • No ID? You still vote a regular ballot. Sign a short affidavit saying you do not have photo ID with you. Your ballot is counted like everyone else’s.
  • You may bring notes or a marked sample ballot into the booth.
  • Leave campaign shirts, buttons and hats at home. Electioneering is not allowed inside polling places or within 100 feet of the entrance.

Your rights at the polls

  • In line by 8 p.m.? Stay in line. You have the right to vote.
  • Every polling place has an accessible voting station. You may bring someone to help you, or ask two election workers to assist.
  • If your name is not on the list, ask the workers to check with the Clerk. If it still cannot be resolved, ask for a provisional ballot.
  • Make a mistake on your ballot? Ask for a new one before you scan it.
  • Problems or questions: the nonpartisan Election Protection hotline, 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683). Spanish: 888-VE-Y-VOTA. Arabic: 844-YALLA-US.
  • Need a ride? Michigan Voting lists free ride options.

What is on your ballot

Your exact ballot depends on your precinct. See yours at the Voter Information Center. Every Inkster ballot includes the following.

Inkster proposals

  • Parks and Recreation millage renewal: up to 2.0 mills for 10 years (2027 to 2036). About $54 a year for the average homeowner. Funds the Dozier Recreation Center, youth programs and SummerFest.
  • Senior Services millage renewal: up to 1.0 mill for 10 years. About $27 a year for the average homeowner. Funds senior programs and senior center staffing.
  • Both are renewals of taxes already being paid, not new ones. Our plain-English breakdown of both proposals.

Statewide proposals

  • Proposal 1, constitutional convention: the automatic question Michigan’s Constitution puts to voters every 16 years. “Yes” would elect 148 delegates to meet in 2027 and propose a rewrite of the state Constitution, which voters would then have to approve. Voters said no in 1978, 1994 and 2010.
  • Proposal 2, campaign finance: a citizen-initiated law that would bar regulated utilities and businesses with more than $250,000 a year in government contracts, and people connected to them, from contributing to certain state candidates and committees. It would also expand “paid for by” disclosure, including online.

Offices

  • Governor and lieutenant governor: Democrat Jocelyn Benson (with Winnie Brinks) and Republican John James (with Jay DeBoyer) are the major-party nominees.
  • U.S. Senate (open seat): Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers are the major-party nominees.
  • U.S. House, Michigan secretary of state, attorney general, state Senate and state House.
  • State education boards, Michigan Supreme Court and other judicial seats, and Wayne County Commission, depending on your precinct.
  • Minor-party and independent candidates also appear on many races. Your sample ballot lists every name.

Before you go: a checklist

  • Look up your polling place on the Voter Information Center.
  • Read your sample ballot, especially the proposals at the end.
  • Bring photo ID, or plan to sign the affidavit.
  • Pick a time: early voting at City Hall avoids Election Day lines.
  • Holding an absentee ballot? Sign it and drop it at City Hall.
